A serious training accident kept Bosco from competing at the Paralympics in 2021. Since coming back last year, the veteran cyclist from Claremont, California, has been nearly unstoppable. Bosco, now 36, followed up her most successful season ever with another dominant year in 2023 that included a second consecutive world cup overall title, defending her road world championships in both the road race and time trial, and three additional medals at the track cycling worlds. After closing out the year with three more medals — two of them gold — at the Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, Bosco enters 2024 as a favorite to add to the two Paralympic medals she won back in 2016.

Also racking up her third medal of the Games was Samantha Bosco (Claremont, CA) who will be adding a bronze medal to her two golds from earlier this week. Bosco was in good standing out of the start before a crash derailed her progress – her first crash after serious training accident in 2021 that kept her from competing in the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

“It was my first crash after I got really hurt two summers ago,” said Bosco, “so it’s nice to know that I can be okay from one. Nobody ever wants to crash, so it was a hard day right from the start.”

“I just trusted myself and trusted the process,” said Bosco. “We made some changes in between qualification and finals that I knew that I could do, and I really believed that I could do it.”

Bosco finished in a time of 3:45.752, ending with a comfortable second lead over Canada’s Keely Toles and a new Parapan American Games record.

“I think every competition prepares me one way or another, whether it’s overcoming challenges that lead up to a race or in the race itself,” said Bosco. “This trip is just giving me a preview of what to expect at the Games and to know where I’m at, what I can work on, and get a feel of the atmosphere and embrace the process.”

“We are extremely excited to round out our 2023 season with this group of athletes in Chile,” Ian Lawless, Director of U.S. Paralympics Cycling, said. “Every single cyclist on this roster has proven themselves among the best in the world in their classification, and we cannot wait to see what they can do against the top athletes from North and South America.”

Bosco, a two-time Paralympic medalist competing in the WC4 class, won a silver and two bronze medals in the track competition, then won a pair of gold medals in the road time trial and road race.

“Today was hard,” said Bosco. “It was a matter of just reading the race, staying dry, being warm, eating enough food and having enough fuel to make it to the finish. I had to just put it all out there. I didn’t expect to be the most decorated, but it feels pretty good.”

“I wanted to repeat last year and execute a race as I had a vision in my head and that’s what I did today,” said Bosco. “I’m on cloud nine. I worked really hard to stay where I’m at and to keep improving upon my past performances. In a way I manifested it, but I also worked by butt off to keep progressing and truly see what I’m capable of.”

Bosco became the most decorated U.S. track athlete – both Paralympic and Olympic – of the event after adding silver and bronze to her collection in the WC4 omnium and WC4 individual pursuit respectively. It was Bosco’s individual pursuit bronze that secured her omnium podium, a medal tallied from points across a combination of all her races.

In her eighth Para-cycling track world championship appearance, two-time Paralympic medalist Samantha Bosco (Claremont, California) secured the first podium for Team USA on the third day of the 2023 UCI Para-cycling World Championships winning bronze in the women’s C4 scratch race.

Bosco, a two-time Paralympic bronze medalist in 2016, has been unbeatable in the WC4 class in 2023 and 2022. She won every world cup competition the last two years and clinched the 2023 world cup title in her class with victories in the time trial and road race at the world cup final in Huntsville, Alabama. In the road race event at Huntsville, Bosco and Morelli finished one-two.

“The 22 athletes racing for the United States at our road world championships this summer represent the best Team USA has to offer,” Ian Lawless, Director of U.S. Paralympics Cycling, said. “They have already proven themselves on the world cup circuit and also through our selection event this year, and we can’t wait to see where they stack up among the best in the world on the sport’s biggest stage.”

After a dominant 2022, Samantha Bosco has established herself as the rider to watch in the Women C4 catagory.

Bosco, who is the reigning Women C4 Time Trial and Road Race UCI World Champion, completed an undefeated UCI World Cup season, securing gold medals in both the time trial and road race events at the 2023 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup.

Her dominant 2023 performances make her a standout athlete to watch at the Championships in August.

"When I found the bike again, I found myself; I found my strength; I found something that I could do, something that made me feel like I was at home - every time I get on the bike, it feels that way," Bosco said.

“It was an amazing race, getting to race with Shawn,” Bosco said. “We looked out for each other and made sure both of us made it to the finish line. It was really nice to know that someone had my back and I had their back throughout the whole race.”

On the winningest day of the 2023 UCI Para-Cycling World Cup season thus far for Team USA, Samantha Bosco (Claremont, California) and Aaron Keith (Woodinville, Washington) led a seven-medal haul for the Americans on day two of racing in Huntsville.

Samantha Bosco, a two-time Paralympic medalist who won two road world titles in 2022, was honored by a trip to Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, for the Ernst & Young Women Athletes Business Network program, and a celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8.

In a moment that just a year ago she thought might never come, Samantha Bosco (Claremont, California) clinched her third world championships medal of 2022 and her first of the year on the track to lead the United States on the second night of racing at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships.

“For me to be here on a track thinking that I wasn’t potentially ever going to ride a bike again, I don’t think I can put it into words,” Bosco, who missed the Paralympic Games last year in Tokyo due to a training accident, said.
